Dermal fillers have a wide range of cosmetic uses, from reducing the appearance of wrinkles and filling in tear troughs to augmenting the cheeks and lips.

Dermal fillers offer a quick and effective solution to help refresh your appearance and restore your confidence. These injectable treatments are often used to soften wrinkles and fine lines, as well as fill out areas that have lost volume or definition. By adding volume to specific areas of the face, such as the cheeks, lips, or even the hands, dermal fillers can recreate the smooth, youthful contours of your skin, leaving you with a natural, refreshed look.

Dermal fillers are a popular procedure with both men and women. As an anti-ageing solution, they can improve the look of lines and wrinkles, facial volume loss, ageing hands, lip lines and crepey skin. If a weak jawline, thin lips, an irregular-looking nose or flat cheeks are your concern, dermal fillers can help achieve fantastic, long-lasting results.

Before carrying out treatment, our clinicians see each and every patient for a thorough assessment and consultation. No two people are the same and no two cases are the same, therefore, you will receive a bespoke treatment plan based on your particular concerns, medical history or skin condition. This not only ensures your safety is upheld at all times, it also means that you’ll gain optimum results from treatment.

Your consultation is free but subject to a £50 attendance deposit that can be redeemed against any treatment delivered during your visit.

You are then invited back for a free post-treatment review session 2 – 4 weeks later.

After the treatment, which can be a couple of days, there might be some minor swelling and bruising. It’s best to time having this procedure done around a week before any special event or occasion. Straight after treatment, applying ice to the area can reduce swelling and help to stop any bruising. Avoid drinking alcohol or partaking in strenuous exercise for 24 hours as it can result in additional bruising.

We will go through detailed aftercare advice to maximise the treatment benefits and avoid any undesirable side effects after your treatment.

Dermal fillers can be used on various areas of the face to restore lost volume and smooth out wrinkles and fine lines. The use of fillers on even just one area of the face can leave the whole face looking rejuvenated and lifted.

Where can Dermal Fillers be used?

Depending on what you hope to achieve, you can have dermal fillers injected into a number of areas in the same treatment.

Upper Face

  • Glabellar lines – These stubborn lines appear on the skin between and above the eyebrows and above the nose. These are caused by muscle activity when we smile, frown or laugh. Due to their position on the face, these lines can be very prominent and noticeable. Dermal fillers will eliminate any glabellar lines.
  • Brow – Fillers can help to lift the brow, making the eyes appear more alert and refreshed, which can transform the face.
  • Forehead – Fillers can be used to eliminate stubborn forehead creases.
  • Temples – Dermal fillers will help to reintroduce lost volume to this delicate area.

Mid Face

  • Cheeks – Cheek fillers restore youthful plumpness to this part of the face, lifting the cheekbones and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Cheek fillers can eliminate the problem of sunken cheeks, which are a natural sign of ageing.
  • Nasolabial folds – The two lines that run from the corners of the nose down to the corners of the mouth. These are visible when we smile, but if they are still visible when the face is neutral, then this is when some people opt for fillers.
  • Tear troughs – Tear trough fillers can help to refresh and rejuvenate the under-eye area by eliminating dark circles and hollows caused by ageing or genetics.
  • Earlobes – As we age, our earlobes can wrinkle and sag. This problem can be compounded by years of wearing heavy earrings. Dermal fillers plump up the earlobes and help to protect the skin from tearing.
  • Nose – Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also known as the 15-minute nose job, is a quick and effective way of modifying the shape of your nose, smoothing out lumps and bumps or making the tip of the nose more prominent.

Lower Face

  • Marionette lines – These lines run from the corners of the mouth downwards. This gives the appearance of the mouth being pulled downwards in an exaggerated frown. Dermal fillers will improve the shape of the area.
  • Jaw – This treatment can create a more defined jawline and pin back any sagging skin, improving the appearance of a double chin. On men, this can help to establish a more masculine jawline.
  • Chin – Fillers can soften the appearance of a prominent or angular chin, smooth out any dimples and improve a person’s profile.
  • Mental crease – This is the horizontal line between the chin and lower lip, which can get deeper with age. Dermal filler treatment will remove any lines that may have appeared.
  • Lips – Dermal fillers can rejuvenate lips that have lost their volume or lack definition. Lip body treatments plump up the lips while keeping their shape. Fillers can also be used to contour the cupids bow, the v-shape on the top lip. The philtrum column, that is the two vertical lines running from the nose to the upper lip, can also be enhanced with the use of fillers.
  • Non-surgical facelift or 8-point facelift that aims to rejuvenate and lift eight key areas of the face using a combination of dermal fillers and anti-aging injections. The eight strategic areas encompass the cheekbones, tear troughs, nasolabial fold, mouth corners, pre-jowl folds, jawline and lower cheeks. The results are comparable with facelift surgery, but without the downtime, cost and risk.

Hands

  • Dermal fillers are frequently used in non-surgical facelifts. This is a bespoke combination of non-surgical treatments designed to tackle common concerns such as wrinkles and sagging skin, without the need for surgery.

Body

  • Buttock Lift Fillers are an innovative, fast and effective non-surgical way to achieve the buttock augmentation and shape your client desires as opposed to surgery. The use of hyaluronic acid not only significantly improves the shape of the buttock and hip area, but is also less invasive and allows the patient to return to normal life in just a few hours, without the need for invasive general surgery

Why do people have Dermal Fillers?

Whilst there are many different types of dermal filler treatment, filler treatments typically seek to reduce the signs of ageing and rejuvenate the facial appearance by restoring volume and fullness to the face area.

Some common reasons include:

  • Enhance the face contours and add volume
  • Soften facial wrinkles and lines
  • Plump thin lips
  • Improve the appearance of recessed scars
  • Reconstruct contour deformities in the face
  • Decrease or remove the shadow of the lower lids or ‘tear troughs’

FAQs

Dermal fillers have many uses to help improve the look of the face, hands, neck and decolletage. Both younger and older adults, men and women find the use of dermal fillers can achieve the appearance they desire as the effects of ageing can be reduced as well as creating a more striking appearance. Whatever your needs, we can expertly advise the type of procedure you will require in order to address your personal concerns. Restoring volume beneath the skin is what dermal fillers does best, whether that is to replace lost collagen or to build upon your natural structure to strengthen the features.

Dermal filler treatments are generally not painful, although the amount of discomfort you experience may vary depending on the area. Treatments around the lip and nose area are typically the most uncomfortable but this can still be tolerated well through topically applied anaesthetic cream.

Dermal fillers work instantly, so you should start to see the results immediately. However, it can take a few days for the final results to develop. This is because dermal fillers can cause minor swelling and bruising in the treatment area. We typically recommend allowing a week or so before expecting to see the final results, to allow for this swelling or bruising to subside.

The dermal fillers that we use here at the clinic are only a temporary treatment and usually last between six and 18 months. How long dermal fillers last depends on a number of factors, including the type of filler and where it is injected. It varies from person to person.

When the hyaluronic acid wears off, it is reabsorbed into the body. The treatment process will then need to be repeated.

If you are looking for a permanent result, you may wish to consider a fat transfer to face, a slightly more invasive treatment that uses the body’s naturally-occurring fat to fill out specific areas of the face.

Dermal Fillers are extremely safe when delivered by a trained medical practitioner. Outcomes can be managed precisely by a technical practitioner, and results are also not permanent and can be rectified (‘dissolved’) if they are not to your satisfaction.

That said, whilst extremely rare when fillers are delivered in a medical environment by a medical professional, possible risks include:

  • Asymmetry, or uneven result
  • Allergic reaction
  • Bruising, bleeding on injection site, swelling
  • Damage to skin and possible scarring
  • Lumps of filler under the skin
  • Skin necrosis
  • Infection
  • Blindness

These risks will be fully discussed at your consultation.

Although there is no evidence that indicates dermal fillers are not safe during pregnancy, the Cadogan Clinic does not perform any injectable treatments on patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If for some reason you are unhappy with the results of your dermal filler treatment, these are easily reversible. The consultant will do this by administering a solution that dissolves the filler almost instantly. It is then reabsorbed into the body, leaving no lasting damage or effect. Alternatively, if you were seeking a more dramatic result, more filler can be added to the treatment area to help achieve your desired result.

It is important that you are open when discussing your treatment goals during your initial consultation.

It is best to arrive at the Clinic with your skin as best prepared for your dermal filler treatment as it can be. This would ideally include not drinking alcohol for 2-3 days prior to your appointment to lessen the risk of bleeding and bruising, as well as having had plenty of rest the night before your treatment to ensure you arrive feeling calm and relaxed.

It is also advised that you do not consume ibuprofen and aspirin for 1 week prior to your appointment as these can also thin your blood making bruising more likely.

There are several different types of dermal fillers and choosing the right type for you will depend on your desired results.

At Kalos Clinic we only use temporary or ‘resorbable’ fillers based on naturally occurring hyaluronic acid that dissolves over time, as these are the safest and lower the risk of any long term side effects.

There are many different types of temporary fillers. Your consultant will choose the filler which is best suited to your needs.

At Kalos Clinic, we only use the following best-in-class brands:
